…tomorrow?!

I don’t think it’ll quite sink in until I’m actually getting off my plane in San Antonio, but tomorrow is TEXAS TIME! My flight leaves for Chicago at 9:30, but I’m getting to the airport at 6:30 in anticipation of customs (I hope they’re gentle with the gloves)…I should be arriving in TEXAS at 2:39 LOCAL TIME (it sounds more dramatic that way).

In any case, next time I check in, this girl’s gonna be wearin’ a cowboy hat and doing the awkward cowgirl shuffle around tahwn.

Adios, Canada and I’ll see you around Christmas!

P.s. This will be me:

…the scarf of ages.

Once upon a morning dreary, as I wandered weak and weary…I was opening after a really late night, and during the pre-open meeting, my addled brain had hit an impressive speedbump that I like to call SEVERE ADD. Instead of actively participating in the meeting, I was staring off at the various shiny things on display in the store (ooh, NEW PRODUCT!) and a certain glorious thing caught my eye…THE SCARF OF AGES. There was nothing about this scarf that was not the most perfect thing that I had laid eyes on. BUT ALAS! The price made my wallet weep. Its delightful stripes, those sultry tones of blue (or something) called to me every day, but I was determined to out-immigrant Chapters. The price started dropping, and I started creeping around the scarf table in hopes of seeing a sticker signalling a further discount. This was the moment at which I realized I have become my mother.

Anyway, today, I walked into the store on a mission…a GLORIOUS MISSION. I was to buy the scarf after my shift. No word of a lie, that was the thing I was most excited about today. I don’t know what that says about my existence, but I’m just going to claim that I’m charming and back away slowly.

HARK! THE SCARF OF AGES!

…and someone said money can’t buy happiness. They just clearly haven’t found a material good capable of bringing them as much joy as this scarf brings me. Again, my life. I also picked up Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury, as I have yet to read it (BLASPHEMY), and a small Schleich giraffe.

…do we sense a theme?

But anyhow, now that I’ve received all of my TTU paperwork, I am entirely ready for Texas, from a bureaucratic standpoint. I am going to go pack some things…or read. But mostly read.

…nine days left!

After I got in from my run this morning, I checked my calendar and realized I have seven work days left, and nine total days left in this lovely city. I never realized how soon my departure date was, and I got really excited when it hit me…next Friday, I’m going to be in Texas! Almost all of my paperwork is done, and now I’m just waiting to get all my medical info and my I-20 in the mail. In any case, there will be a few more posts littered with unnecessary exclamation marks between now and the 17th; I may even have a freakout or two while packing (I should probably start that)!

I think I’m going to go make some lists to calm my mind…or maybe grab my markers and get at my colouring book (yes, I have one).

P.s. This has to be the greatest Olympic ad ever. Go Canada!
